This was a letter to my dear friend Patrick. His company moved him out to Baltimore for better work opportunities. This letter was the only way I was able to cope with the move. Baltimore is his new home, but Buffalo will always be in his heart.
So much to say. From Blaine Ave to the 52 Rage Cage (College Houses), we have had our share of laughs. You haven’t even left and we already miss you. Hell, I miss you! I’m a mess without you! I miss you so damn much. I miss being with you. I miss being near you. I miss your laugh. I miss your scent. I miss your musk. When this all gets sorted out me and you are going to get an apartment together. But you know what I am going to miss most of all? Waking up at 9AM on a Saturday and buying kegs for absolutely no reason whatsoever.
Over the last 6 years, I have shared more beer and ate too much pizza with you than almost any other person on this earth. And by pizza I mean Stingers because we both know that you can never eat enough pizza (HAHAAA). Although, we probably ate more mighty taco than anything.
A lot of things have changed over the past 6 years: We have all graduated college (somehow). We all have jobs (although we could probably use a couple more). We have seen the rise and fall of some of Buffalos finest establishments like City Tavern, Indulge, Purple Monkey, and Taylor Jordan! And we witnessed all of that while wearing storm trooper onesies and making the news!
You have taught me some valuable lessons during our friendship:
1. Everybody once a year.
2. There’s never anything wrong with getting Stingers at Jim’s and burritos at Lloyds in the same night.
3. Or eating poutine 3 times in one day.
4. If someone is in your way at the bar, just ask them to move. No need to call them names right?
5. If you can’t have something, then no one can!!!!
6. Most importantly, you should always, ALWAYS let people remember that you have made a hole in one.
I have literally travelled from one side of this country to another with you. From Buffalo to Boston to Daytona Beach, every mile was a memory, whether we remember them or not. Baltimore is one lucky city to be getting a lad like you. Crab Cakes and football is what you are going to do now, but never forget your roots! You tell those Hons down in Maryland that the best foods ever invented will always be garbage plates and chicken wings, EVEN IF THERE IS A FIRE! And no matter how much Natty Boh they try to force down your throat, it we’ll never beat a cold Genny or Blue Light!
I’ve lived in buffalo for 6 years now. I’ve seen the sights, I love the sights. But Patrick, you have showed me a side of Buffalo that most people will never see!
Never forget, you will always have a couch to sleep on, although you might have to fight Stroka for it! #BillsMafia will always have your back and never forget #LadsRunDeep.
